Auckland, NZ developer stung under Resource Management Act

May 5, 2008 04:20 by Admin

An Auckland property developer has been fined $25,000 for breaching the district plan.  The Auckland City Council says a number of generally protected trees were destroyed, pruned or topped on the man's Hillsborough property without resource consent.  Earthworks were also carried out on the site in excess of district plan limits, and without adequate sediment control measures being put in place.  Jackie Wilkinson from Auckland City Environments says the man was charged under the Resource Management Act.  She says the prosecution sends a clear message about the council's strong stance on the protection of the city's trees.  Source: tvnz.co.nz
